Thanks for posting this up Dan. We can use the help. Not a ton to do (afaik) but I am hearing that there might be boulders to winch off the trail. John

Today's adopt a trail run went very well. Being that Dana and I represented the NO BS family we were on our best behavior We got a ton of work done with a good solid turn out from the lost group. (pics are at the bottom) We met up with Ranger Greg Hoffman after a little miss-communication and actually started the day with some good news, quickly followed by bad news. The official announcement of the legalization for the off shoot "fun" spots on the cleghorn and pilot rock trails has been accepted by management, unfortunately ONLY FOR 50 INCH WIDE AND SMALLER MOTORIZED VEHICLES (your dirt bikes, quads and some side by side atv's) Basically what this changes for us is nothing! it is fully a ticket able offense to be on the offshoots in a regular sized vehicle. This was quite a blow to the lost group as they have been working feverishly on this topic with Greg for 4 years. Unfortunately there was a difference in opinion with the writers of the law and those who are enforcing the laws there on what a OHV vehicle is. The Forest service definition is 50 inch track and smaller which we all agree is a narrow minded approach to it. (Greg is working on fixing that situation with upper management I had a rather lengthy talk with him today and will be bringing more of the info he shared later) Well after some discussion we got back on track and went to work. first order of buisness was to place the sign designating the trail. Then we cleared some various debris from the trail and cleaned out a whole mess of culverts We pushed pulled winched and towed some boulders off the trail and used them to help block off some areas where motorcycles had been burning in a new trail, we also ended up filling a big hole with one rock, we still have no idea how the hole got there though it was nearly perfectly round about 2 feet deep and didn't show any rain or vehicle marks that would explain it. Greg ushered us around pointing out this and that we can work on next time and eventually came to a spot where it was absolutely beautiful, running water, wild life trees and flowers, oh and the trail to a few rocks that some assholes burned right through the middle. you can drive up to the rocks and on the rocks but there is absolutely no going past them its just not possible yet people obviously have been going over there for some time leaving the litter, killing the natural grass and dropping oil all over. Greg explained it has been a big problem area and even when they have fenced it off people just rip the fence out and do it anyways. Im pretty pissed off to see that crap in our forest! Greg John and I lightly discussed a solution which we will be implementing shortly that should fix the problem. It will take a lot of man power and a bit of equipment but it will not hurt the water flow and yet will make it impassable by even a severly built rig. Listening to Greg though out the day found out the trail actually has some really cool history pertaining to the California conservation corps and some indian heritage as well. We parted ways with Greg up in arrowhead at the north shore campground. He did give us the dime tour and explained that the last intact barracks for the CCC is actually there, the OHV volunteers have a pretty sweet camp ground complete with bathrooms showers and 50 inch trail access. Well by this time its getting kinda late in the afternoon so we went into town and had dinner then parted ways, but some of us took the trail all the way back home
